What We Do

Agency is fundamental to social and behavior change. Emerging evidence suggests that empowerment-focused social and behavior change efforts can create sustained impacts on a wide range of health outcomes. Despite this, interventions rarely address issues of individual and collective empowerment, and the agency that drives that empowerment. Through partnerships with local experts, Agency for All works to understand how individual and collective agency is shaped by, and in turn shapes, drivers of health behavior across contexts. To accomplish this, our work focuses on:

Conceptualizing and Measuring Agency

Agency encompasses the awareness of options, ability to make informed choices, set goals, and take action to reach those goals.

Fostering Agency & Understanding Impact

Agency for All is generating evidence on how social and behavior change (SBC) interventions foster agency to improve health.

Centering Agency in SBC Programming

Through research and assessment activities, Agency for All produces evidence on how past SBC investments have been successful, and what role, if any, agency has played.

Strengthening Agency with Local Partners

Through efforts to forge equitable partnerships, Agency for All seeks to internalize agency within our own work.
